Tom Pearce reacts on Twitter after making his Leeds United debut

Leeds United lost 2-1 at home to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday afternoon.

Leeds United’s dismal 2018 continued on Saturday afternoon, as they lost 2-1 to Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday at Elland Road.

The Whites went into the game having drawn 2-2 at Reading last weekend, but with just the one win in 2018, manager Paul Heckingbottom was looking for a strong result against one of his former clubs.

However, Leeds fell behind when Atdhe Nuhiu converted from close range, after Owls winger Adam Reach had headed Jack Hunt’s cross against the post.

Jay-Roy Grot did head home an equaliser for Leeds from Pablo Hernandez’s cross, but Nuhiu bagged the winner for Wednesday, shrugging off Matthew Pennington to slot past Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

Any lingering hopes of a play-off push appear to be dead for Leeds, who sit 12 points off the top six with just eight games to go, and they now lay in 14^th place in the Championship table.

There wasn’t a great deal for Leeds fans to shout about in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat, but they did get to see another academy graduate make his debut in Tom Pearce.

Pearce, 19, has come up through the ranks with the Whites, and with problems at left back – as has been the case for much of the season – Leeds turned to Pearce on Saturday afternoon.

The teenager put in an assured display, and posted a message to fans after the final whistle, admitting that he was happy to make his first appearance for the club, and praised the supporters who carried on going despite the result.
