Leeds United’s Tom Pearce is again being linked with a move away.
Leeds United fought hard to keep left back Tom Pearce over the summer, but may have to scrap to ensure his future once again in 2019.
Pearce was brought into first-team action by Paul Heckingbottom towards the end of last season, and his performances attracted interest from Bournemouth and former club Everton.
With his contract expiring at the end of last season, Leeds fought hard to hand him a new deal until 2022 – but then signed Barry Douglas to become their first-choice left back.
Pearce has subsequently made just two Championship appearances this season, and even with Douglas injured, hasn’t been given the chance to start under Marcelo Bielsa.
Now, The Sun on Sunday (28/10; page 59) claim that Everton and Bournemouth are once again back in for Pearce, and could launch 2019 moves to lure him away from Elland Road.
Just months after committing his future to Leeds, Pearce may now be tempted to move on in January after a lack of playing time under Bielsa, even if he wouldn’t become an instant Premier League starter.
Pearce could be groomed behind Lucas Digne at Everton or Diego Rico at Bournemouth, with both top flight clubs looking at young left backs as Leighton Baines and Charlie Daniels age.
Pearce would have plenty to think about once again if those clubs come calling, and with a lack of playing time since signing a new deal with Leeds, moving away may just become appealing for Pearce if he can secure a Premier League move.
