Tom Lees admits it’s been difficult recently at Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday defender has not had a chance to impress new manager Jos Lukukay yet.

Sheffield Wednesday defender Tom Lees has told the Sheffield Star that he’s found things tough since Carlos Carvalhal departed at Hillsborough.

Lees has been out with injury ever since Jos Lukukay took charge, and he does not feel he has been able to prove his quality to the new Owls boss.

The centre-back did play for Wednesday’s under-23 side in midweek though, and Lees is hoping that he can force his way into Luhukay’s starting line-up soon.

He said: “It has been really difficult, to be honest, because when a new manager comes in you are desperate to be playing and showing him what you can do and I haven’t had that opportunity.

“I have been working pretty much all day every day with the physios. They have been great and put in 12 hour days alongside me to try and get me back as quick as possible.

“I’ve come back into training but obviously the team is going through a a little bit of a tough patch. We are playing a different formation and constantly looking at the shape. I’m just champing at the bit to get back out there.”

When Lees does return to fitness, it would be a major surprise if he doesn’t walk straight back in to Wednesday’s team.

Lees is arguably the Owls’ best and most reliable defender, and he has been badly missed this term.

The former Leeds United man has not featured since November, which has been a major blow for Wednesday.

Luhukay has made a rather middling start at Hillsborough, but did pick up his victory in midweek, when his new side beat Derby County 2-0 at Pride Park.

The Owls are next in action at the weekend, when they take on Swansea City.
