Ipswich Town loanee Tom Lawrence has told the East Anglian Daily Times that he hasn’t heard from parent club Leicester City about his progress or his future.
Lawrence, 23, joined the Foxes from Manchester United in 2014 having come up through the ranks at Old Trafford, and after a couple of loan spells, he decided to leave Old Trafford permanently.
The forward has made just four appearances for Leicester having been loaned out for the majority of his stay at the King Power Stadium, spending time with Rotherham United, Blackburn Rovers, Cardiff City and now Ipswich Town this season.
A Welsh international with four caps to his name, Lawrence has starred for the Tractor Boys this season, smashing eight goals and six assists in 28 Championship appearances, including some remarkable long-range goals.
Unsurprisingly, Lawrence’s exploits have attracted some interest. Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy told the East Anglian Daily Times in January that Leeds United were hoping to land Lawrence from Leicester, but there was no way that his loan spell would be ended to facilitate a move elsewhere.
Now, Lawrence has told the East Anglian Daily Times that he has yet to even hear from Leicester City, and seemed surprised and frustrated with the lack of communication or interest in his progress from The Foxes.
“Not as far as I know,” said Lawrence when asked if Leicester have been in touch. “You would have thought they’d have got in contact, but they haven’t so… We’ll have to wait and see what happens. I just get on with it. People at this club have welcomed me well.”
“I’ll wait and see what Leicester have got to say and I’ll go from there. You never know what’s going to happen. I can’t predict my future. I thought I could give them something this season, but obviously they thought different. If they want me to stay, hopefully I could give them something next year,” he added.
Lawrence’s comments throw his long-term Leicester future in doubt, and Leeds should be keeping Lawrence on their radar ahead of the summer transfer window, in the hope of finally signing him.

A talented winger who can play off a striker or up front, Lawrence has quality on the ball and possesses a threat to score from anywhere on the pitch, as he can go past players or shoot from long-range with great accuracy.
Leeds have a host of wingers on loan right now, with Hadi Sacko, Modou Barrow and Alfonso Pedraza all owned by other clubs, and permanent deals may depend on promotion to the Premier League.
Whether Leeds go up or not, Lawrence is a promising player who has proven himself in the Championship, and his comments should be seen as something of a come-and-get-me plea to other managers, with Garry Monk surely still eyeing his situation.
Given Leicester’s apparent lack of interest in Lawrence’s progression, the Welshman could leave at the end of the season – and Leeds should be positioning themselves near the front of the queue to land a winger with quality and potential.
