Tom Huddlestone thinks that Tottenham could cash-in on their out-of-contract stars, Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld in January after the likes of Giovani Lo Celso and Juan Foyth put in strong performances last night.

The former Spurs man stated that the situation could arise where the North London outfit cash-in on the senior trio in January, especially if those who were given a chance in Belgrade produce the goods in these coming months.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side put four goals past Red Star in the Champions League, with the likes of Juan Foyth, Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele and Davinson Sanchez given starts – only Eriksen from the out-of-contract players came onto the pitch from the bench.

Speaking to The Debate on Sky Sports Premier League (06/11/19 at 10:15 pm), Huddlestone shared how things could change for Spurs in these coming months as he labelled their season as ‘strange’.

“The lads that have played tonight have done themselves no harm whatsoever,” Huddlestone told the Debate. “It’s good for Lo Celso to get his first goal. That’ll give him huge confidence going forward – he will want to cement his place in the team.

“With your Vertonghen’s and Eriksen’s, it’s well-documented that they are out-of-contract in the summer, so whether the manager is looking past this season for the future? They are great professionals and if called upon like tonight, they will still deliver the goods.

“It has been a strange season this year. Given the lads the chance now and if they can prove over the next couple of months that they can do the business, which the manager is after than a few of the players, who have less time on their contracts, then they might cash in on them in January knowing that the players that have played tonight or over the next few months are able to deliver the goods for them.”

It has been well-documented that Christian Eriksen asked to leave in the summer, but in the end, he stayed on at the North London club.

Despite him scoring last night, his performances haven’t seemingly been up to scratch as Lo Celso could potentially be his long-term replacement.

As mentioned above, the likes of Foyth, Sanchez, Dier, Lo Celso and Ndombele were given starts in the Champions League, but will Pochettino keep them in his starting XI for Sheffield United’s visit at the weekend?
