Would Jose Mourinho be welcomed by Arsenal fans if the club replaced Unai Emery with the out-spoken coach?
Tom Huddlestone has aimed a dig at Arsenal supporters by saying they are ‘difficult to please’ amid rumours about Jose Mourinho potentially replacing Unai Emery.
Derby County midfielder Huddlestone thinks that Mourinho would be a ‘good fit’ for Arsenal because he would get them organised, but he thinks that the out-spoken coach would seemingly be in a lose-lose situation if he were to become their next manager.
Rumours have been swirling around for some while now that Arsenal may turn to Mourinho as pressure mounts on Emery, as reported by The Daily Mail.
Speaking to The Debate on Sky Sports (06/11/2019 at 10:35 pm), former Spurs man Huddlestone commented on the possibility of Mourinho becoming Arsenal’s next manager.
“It doesn’t seem far fetched now,” Huddlestone told Sky Sports. “But on the other hand, the situation they are in now, it could be six months down the line, they might be winning games but their fans might be unhappy with the way Mourinho is playing football.
“Arsenal fans seem very difficult to please. The last few years of Wenger and definitely the last 18 months. I think tactically Mourinho could be a good fit for them. Organise them.
“His Chelsea team, if they took the lead, you knew they were winning the game. With Arsenal now, you expect the opposition to knick an equaliser – he would see it as a massive challenge. I think he is the right fit. If he can achieve everything he can achieve if he was the Arsenal manager, that would probably mean him finishing third, which he isn’t used to doing in these last 15 years. He would want first.”
Mourinho’s last job was at Manchester United, but things turned pretty toxic towards the end of his reign and he was sacked by the club last December.
He has since been out of a job, and even though he has been a serial winner during his managerial career, his appointment would divide opinion.
But, at this moment in time, Emery is still the man in the dugout, but if results and performances continue to decline then it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him given his marching orders.
