The Toffees eased the pressure on under-fire Goodison Park manager Marco Silva at the weekend.
Everton midfielder Tom Davies has praised the quality of the goals scored by his Toffees teammates at Goodison Park at the weekend, joking that he didn’t “know how Bernard has got that first one” and deeming Gylfi Sigurdsson’s strike a “screamer” (Everton website).
The £13.5million-valued midfielder (Transfermarkt) – who captained England’s Under-21s in the international break just gone – was named from the off in the Everton central midfield alongside Andre Gomes and put in a very solid shift as the Toffees claimed a 2-0 victory over West Ham.
Victory for under-fire Everton boss Marco Silva was claimed as Bernard opened the scoring by connecting with Theo Walcott’s delivery, taking a couple of touches and, just when it looked like the chance had gone, doing superbly to slot home past the opposition goalkeeper.
Then came Sigurdsson’s superb strike in injury time, his dummy completely taking out Jack Wilshere before cutting back onto his right foot and lashing a curling effort that rose into the Hammers net, beyond the reach of Roberto Jimenez Gago, to wrap up the result.
“Both [goals] were fantastic,” Davies told the Everton website. “I don’t know how Bernard has got that first one in but it’s a quality goal, and then Gylfi’s come on and scored a screamer.
“That was great because we could relax a bit more and see the game out for those last few minutes. For both the lads, scoring two worldies, I’m made up for them.”
Everton, now 14th in the table, travel to Brighton in their next Premier League game on Saturday 26 October, 3pm kickoff.
