Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers may well have identified his side’s replacement for Scott Brown in Everton midfielder Tom Davies.

The Guardian have suggested that Celtic want Davies, although any deal is problematic.

Everton boss Marco Silva is keen to keep hold of Davies, which means that the midfielder may have to push for a move to Celtic for any deal to take place.

And if Celtic did bring in Davies he would be an obvious long-term replacement for Brown.

Brown is now 33, and even if he does stick around at Celtic beyond this season, he is likely to only have a few more years left at the peak of his powers.

But Davies could offer a lot of the qualities that Brown has brought to Celtic for so long.

The Everton youngster is a tough-tackler, whose aggression is one of his main strengths.

Brown’s physicality has allowed Celtic to win midfield battles regularly, and Davies’ all action style would mean he would have little trouble filling the void.

Replacing Brown will be very difficult for the Bhoys, when the time does come, but Davies’ arrival would go a big step towards doing so, and Rodgers should be doing everything in his power to wrap up a deal for the Everton man.
