Aston Villa midfielder Tom Carroll has left the club already.

Aston Villa’s move for Tom Carroll in January really didn’t pay off – and now he’s left Villa Park after just over two months with the club.

Villa bolstered their back line in January by landing goalkeeper Lovre Kalinic as well as defender Tyrone Mings and Kortney Hause, and also wanted a midfielder.

A number of names were tipped for moves to Villa Park, but in the end, Villa beat the deadline to bring in Swansea City’s Tom Carroll on loan until the end of the season.

The former Spurs man had only started eight league games for Swansea in the first half of the season, and was hoping to really kick on and become a regular with Villa, with the hope of securing a permanent move.

Carroll made his debut against Reading just days after signing, but has only been seen once since, coming on as a substitute against Derby County last month.

Carroll has played just 35 minutes for Villa, struggling to shake off a hip injury which has troubled him throughout his time at Villa Park – and now, he’s heading back to South Wales.

The midfielder’s loan spell was ended on Thursday, as Carroll needs surgery and won’t play again this season, bringing an end to his forgettable spell with the club.

Carroll has now taken to Twitter to admit that he’s gutted that he has to cut his time with Villa short, and urged the club to go and win promotion back to the Premier League in his absence.
