Where will the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder’s minutes come this season?

Tottenham Hotspur’s summer transfer window started well, went ominously quiet and then burst into life once more in the final few days of August, but what do all the new faces mean for the club’s fringe players?
Tottenham always needed to reinforce their front line, with an overreliance on Harry Kane for the last two seasons, while an additional winger was always expected, but two new central midfielders could leave one academy product struggling for game-time in the form of Tom Carroll.

The 24-year-old is undeniably talented yet the arrival of Victor Wanyama and Moussa Sissoko means competition for places in the central area is strikingly high at White Hart Lane.
Last season Tottenham relied on Dele Alli, Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele with great success, and with the trio now fighting two new faces for a starting spot, it seems highly unlikely that Carroll will be anything more than a bit-part player at best.

After making 30 appearances in all competitions last season, Carroll will have been hoping to build on that this time out. However with Spurs’ Europa League exploits replaced by a return to the Champions League, one wonders where his next start is coming from aside from a few EFL Cup run-outs.
