Tom Boyd has told The Scottish Sun that Celtic should sign Odsonne Edouard on a permanent contract from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window.

Celtic signed Edouard on a season-long loan deal from PSG in the summer of 2017.

The 20-year-old forward scored six goals and provided two assists in 19 Scottish Premiership appearances for the Bhoys this season, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

The highest ever fee that Celtic have paid for a player was £6 million for Chris Sutton, Neil Lennon and John Hartson during the Martin O’Neill era, according to The Scottish Sun.

According to The Scottish Sun, the Glasgow giants will have to pay a record £10m in order to secure the services of the Frenchman this summer, and Celtic legend Boyd, who won the league title in Scotland three times with the Hoops, believes that Edouard would be worth the fee.

Boyd told The Scottish Sun about Edouard: “It is not a gamble going from what we have seen of Edouard so far. Under the guidance of Brendan Rodgers he will only get better.

“Rodgers has improved so many players within the ranks here, and we have seen examples of that as players have developed and come on, none more so than Scott Brown.”

“Rodgers knows he will have the potential to sell Edouard on at a later date,” added Boyd. “Celtic have done not too bad at that, in terms of bringing players in and making them better, then selling them, mostly to the Premier League.”

Future star

Edouard did not always start for Celtic this past season, but the Frenchman scored some important goals, and his overall performance was also encouraging.

Given that the PSG-owned forward is only 20 years of age, Edouard could improve under Rodgers and will have a very high re-sale value.
