The reported Leeds United target wants his contract situation sorted out.

ADO Den Haag defender Tom Beugelsdijk has been speaking to Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad about his contract situation, with his comments later published online by Voetbal Zone.

The 26-year-old centre-back’s current contract expires in just 14 months, and following a report from the Daily Mail last summer that Leeds United manager Garry Monk was interested in signing the player, the Whites could be keeping a very close eye on proceedings.

“I’m curious, but I need to know what they are doing,” Beugelsdijk is quoted as saying. “They (the club) need to sort this out themselves.

“I also need to look at next year. I do not want to play in the Jupiler League.”

That will be music to the ears of a Leeds manager whose defensive options could be severely weakened next season.

Pontus Jansson’s future is yet to be resolved, while Kyle Bartley could well head back to Swansea City before completing a permanent move elsewhere.

If Leeds lose one or both players Monk will need to sign effective replacements and Beugelsdijk possesses the innate talent to be that man.

Only time will tell how this plays out, but with Monk known to be an admirer and the player seeking a new challenge, this summer could see the Leeds boss finally get his man.
