Tom Aspinall isn’t any closer to a return date at the moment.
It’s already been confirmed that Aspinall will take on either Ciryl Gane or Alex Pereira in a title unification bout once he’s cleared to compete again.
But there’s still plenty of recovery ahead before the heavyweight champion can start getting back into full training, after picking up serious eye injuries in his last outing.
Despite sharing new footage of himself working out, Aspinall remains limited in what he can actually do at this stage of his recovery.
Tom Aspinall back in the gym, but still four months away from taking contact

Last month, Tom Aspinall had surgery on both eyes to address the lingering issues from eye pokes he suffered in October. The effects were serious enough that his vision remained compromised until recently.
Since then, there have been encouraging signs. In a recent interview with FFTV and Grace Neutral, Aspinall spoke positively about how things are progressing.
“I’m starting to train again a little bit now, which is good,” he said. “I’ve only recently had surgery so it was only like four weeks ago but my vision’s a lot better than it was before I had the surgery.”
Even with the positive update, he was clear that doctors have advised against any contact for several months.
“I just can’t get punched for a while,” he said. “Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing… about four months without getting punched, which is quite a long time for me. It’s the longest I’ve not been punched for.”
The timeline for his return remains uncertain because it’s unclear how quickly he’ll regain full fitness after such an extended break from full-contact training.
The good news is that Aspinall seems satisfied with how his eyes are recovering and feels encouraged by being back in the gym, even if there’s still some way to go before he takes any contact again.
