Chris Kamara says he told Jose Mourinho to sign Van Dijk at Manchester United
While the former Southampton centre-half has not been at his imperious best this season, there is no denying that from 2018 to 2020, the level he reached is right up there with some of the best we have ever seen in the English game.
Going on to win every possible trophy at Anfield, the 31-year-old is well and truly a legend of the game.
Now, Chris Kamara has said that he told Jose Mourinho to make a move for Virgil van Dijk during his time at Manchester United before his transfer to Liverpool.

“I can exclusively reveal that I told Jose Mourinho to take him to Manchester United and Jose said ‘these lot won’t give me the money for him’, and he went to Liverpool instead”, he said on BBC’s Kammy and Ben’s Proper Football Podcast.
The rest is history
It’s clear to see that while Jose Mourinho admired Liverpool stalwart Virgil van Dijk in the same vein as Chris Kamara.
Unfortunately for the Portuguese legend, Manchester United deemed his price tag as an excessive ask, as was the case with many clubs at the time.
But at the end of the day, Liverpool took a chance on Van Dijk and he will go down as the greatest defender to ever play for the club in the Premier League era.
