Martin Keown criticised Arsenal winger Willian on BT Sport 2 (5:49pm, December 10, 2020).

The Arsenal legend believes that Willian has not been great for the Gunners so far this season, and thinks that his crosses have not been useful.

Former Manchester City striker Shaun Goater has also been disappointed by the performance of the Brazil international winger.

Willian, who can also operate as an attacking midfielder, joined Arsenal in the summer of 2020 after leaving London and Premier League rivals Chelsea at the end of last season.

Keown said about Willian on BT Sport 2 (5:49pm, December 10, 2020): “Willian for me doesn’t look as if he is really at it. These are tokenism crosses. Are they for the manager? Has he been told to count his crosses?”

Goater said about Willian on Racing Post: “Willian has gone there, under the radar, not producing goals, this guy’s Brazilian, this guy’s experienced, this guy knows the Premier League, should be putting in goals, putting in assists, and just floats under the radar.”

Willian needs to step up

Willian is a very good and creative player who is not having the best of times at Arsenal at the moment.

However, the 32-year-old – described by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta as “a player that can really make a difference for” the Gunners on the North London club’s official website in August 2020 – remains a very good player who has not lost his talent or touch.

The Brazilian does need to step up his game, and perhaps he will do that in the coming weeks.

Arsenal as a team are not playing well in the Premier League, and perhaps that is affecting Willian’s game.

According to WhoScored, the 32-year-old has provided three assists in 10 Premier League games for Arsenal so far this season, while during the 2019-20 campaign, he scored nine goals and gave seven assists in the league and scored one goal and provided one assist in the Europa League for Chelsea.
