Dean Smith’s Aston Villa are still interested in signing Todd Cantwell from Norwich City in the summer transfer window, according to The Express.
What’s the story?
It is being reported this morning (9am) that with Bertrand Traore picking up an injury against Liverpool in a friendly match on Sunday, Villa could now make a move for Norwich star Cantwell.
The Villans had initially looked at signing the 23-year-old attacking midfielder as a potential replacement for Jack Grealish, who left for Manchester City earlier this month.
Villa will also not have Trezeguet back in action until the New Year due to injury.
Norwich value Cantwell at £40 million, according to the report.

Could a transfer happen?
Villa have already signed attacking midfielder Emiliano Buendia, winger Leon Bailey and striker Danny Ings to replace Grealish.
Of course, anything is possible when the transfer window is open, but it is hard to see Villa spend £40 million on yet another attacking player this summer, especially someone who is still only 23.

Yes, Traore is injured now, but he will be back at some point, and manager Smith could then have too many attacking players in his squad.
Described as “an exceptional, exceptional player” by former Norwich striker Chris Sutton on BBC Radio 5 Live in June 2020, Cantwell would be a good signing for Villa, but you have to ask whether they need to spend £40 million on a 23-year-old now.
