Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly remains interested in signing Cristiano Ronaldo following his departure from Manchester United and Newcastle United deciding not to pursue him, according to 90min.

90min have reported that Boehly wanted to sign Ronaldo from Manchester United in the summer of 2022, but he decided not to after holding talks with then Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel.

Graham Potter is now in charge of the Blues, and although the former Brighton and Hove Albion boss is reluctant to sign the 37-year-old in the January transfer window, Boehly is keeping his options soon.

Boehly ‘is yet to rule out pursuing Ronaldo, whose performances at the World Cup are being watched incredibly carefully by the American’, according to 90min.

It was 90min who reported earlier this week that Newcastle have turned down the chance to sign the former Real Madrid and Juventus forward on a free transfer in January.

The report claimed that Ronaldo’s representatives approached Newcastle to see if the Magpies would sign him, but they were informed by the Premier League club that they are not keen on him.

Free agent

Ronaldo has had his contract with Manchester United terminated by mutual consent and is now a free agent.

The star forward scored for Portugal in their win against Ghana at the 2022 Qatar World Cup on Thursday.
