Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly told Billy Gilmour not to leave the Blues in the summer transfer window before the Everton target moved to Brighton and Hove Albion, according to The Athletic.

The report published this morning has claimed that Boehly told former Rangers prospect Gilmour to stay at Chelsea and persevere instead of leaving the Blues.
The Scotland international midfielder left anyway, joining Brighton and Hove Albion on a permanent deal.
The move happened on the final day of the summer transfer window.
The Seagulls paid Chelsea £9 million for the Scotsman, according to Sky Sports.
Interestingly, Graham Potter was then the Brighton boss.
Following the sacking of Thomas Tuchel as their manager last week, Chelsea appointed Potter as their new boss.
This means that Gilmour is now in limbo.
Frank Lampard wanted Billy Gilmour at Everton
Interestingly, former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard wanted to sign Gilmour for Everton in the summer transfer window.
Journalist Simon Phillips told GiveMeSport in August that Lampard “really likes” Gilmour and had “a really close relationship” with him when he was at Chelsea.
The former England international midfielder was reportedly pushing for a move for the 21-year-old.
Brighton are looking for a new manager now, and he may not take to Gilmour like the way Potter did and wanted to sign him for the Seagulls.
In hindsight, a move to Everton would have made more sense for Gilmour, as Lampard wanted him and is still in charge of the Toffees.
