Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is reportedly set to fly out to Barcelona to hold a meeting with Spanish wonderkid Gavi, who Manchester City are believed to be interested in.
According to AS, the American businessman is due to jet out to Catalonia to discuss a potential transfer for the 18-year-old, who is currently set to leave FC Barcelona as a free agent if the La Liga giants are unable to resolve the midfielder’s current contract situation.
With the Times reporting that City are also keeping tabs on Gavi’s situation, Chelsea appear to be making strides in trying to beat Pep Guardiola’s side to the Barcelona sensation, who could soon become a free agent in what might be one of the best deals any top European club could make in any summer.
Gavi is an established starter with both Barcelona and the Spanish national team as well as the most recent recipient of the Golden Boy award, and should the midfielder become available for free, the scramble to sign the teenager will be unlikely anything we have ever seen before.
Indeed, whilst City could have a great chance at signing Gavi due to the influence Guardiola still has on Barcelona players, Chelsea’s owner flying out to meet with the midfielder’s team could be a huge problem for the Manchester giants, who are losing their footing for the 18-year-old.
As we know, City are expected to go big on signing a new central midfielder this summer with Ilkay Gundogan’s future up in the air, with a long-term replacement for Kevin De Bruyne also an issue that needs addressing. And should Chelsea sign Gavi, the Cityzens could be kicking themselves.

Adding Gavi to a squad that already includes the best young striker in the world in Erling Haaland would be nothing short of exceptional for City, yet with Chelsea making all the right moves to land the Barcelona talent, the Manchester side will soon have to wake up and make an approach themselves.
As we know, Gavi would flourish under Guardiola, who could nurture the Spanish international into the midfielder of his dreams. But with Chelsea now leading the race, time is running out for the Premier League giants to beat their English rivals to the punch.
