Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Toby Alderweireld is available for £25 million this summer.

Toby Alderweireld’s planned exit plan at Tottenham Hotspur could work out brilliantly for them.

According to the Daily Mail, Alderweireld could look to stay at Tottenham and then leave on a free at the end of next season.

The Belgian feels that his options will be increased if he stays at Tottenham until the very end of his contract.

And that could be music to Tottenham fans’ ears, as it gives them another year to think about replacing one of the most talented defenders in the Premier League.

Tottenham have the option to extend Alderweireld’s contract for a year, which they will take, but the Belgian then will become available for £25 million, due to a clause in his contract (Daily Mail).

For that sort of money, Spurs would surely better off keeping hold of Alderweireld, but there were initially fears that they would be powerless to resist.

If a club meets Alderweireld’s £25 million release clause, there is nothing Spurs can do to convince him to stay.

However, if Alderweireld is planning on sticking around for another year, then Spurs fans should be celebrating.

For £25 million Tottenham were never going to be able to bring in a replacement for the Belgian of equal quality.

Tottenham also now have the opportunity to have another 12 months to persuade Alderweireld into staying.

And if the 30-year-old does plan on sticking with Mauricio Pochettino’s side then it can only be seen as positive news for Spurs.
