Toby Alderweireld shares what’s happened in Tottenham Hotspur training

Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld is set to start for Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the Champions League final.

Toby Alderweireld has claimed in the Guardian that the intensity of Tottenham Hotspur’s training has gone up hugely in the past three weeks.

Spurs have had a prolonged rest before the Champions League final, with the Premier League season finishing at the start of the month.

However, Mauricio Pochettino has not wanted his players to lose their match sharpness in the build up to arguably the biggest game in Tottenham’s history.

And Alderweireld says that the Spurs squad have been putting in a lot of hard work in training.

“In the last couple of weeks we’ve been trying like animals,” the centre-back, who is set to have a £25 million release clause built into his contract (Guardian), said.

“We’re trying to give our best every day because that is the way we need to work to be in the right state for the final. Everybody wants to be there, to be involved and give their best, and the final is not going to start on Saturday – it started two weeks ago.”

Tottenham take on Liverpool in the Champions League final on Saturday looking to win the competition for the very first time.

Spurs have not lifted any sort of silverware since 2008 and Pochettino has never won a trophy before as a manager.

The occasion is huge for Tottenham and if they were victorious it would be a hugely momentous occasion in the history of the club.

Spurs have beaten the likes of Manchester City, Borussia Dortmund and Ajax to reach this stage of the competition.
