The Tottenham Hotspur defender must surely go down as one of the club’s best ever signings.
Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld
Speaking on BBC’s Football Focus programme on Saturday March 11th, Spurs defender Toby Alderweireld raved about the support he and his teammates receive on a regular basis from the Tottenham fans.
The Belgium international has been a rock at the back for Mauricio Pochettino’s side this term, and his importance to the team was highlighted when he spent a prolonged period on the sidelines through injury earlier on in the campaign.
The 28-year-old has formed arguably the league’s best central defensive partnership with Jan Vertonghen during his time at White Hart Lane, and the 20 goals they have conceded in 27 Premier League outings supports that notion.
Alderweireld told BBC’s Football Focus how the fans have played a huge part in his side’s success so far this term:
“I love our fans. They will take over (tomorrow against Millwall). I’m very honoured to play at the Lane. It always feels so good how they support the team and gives us something extra, especially this season.”

The former Southampton and Atletico Madrid man must be considered one of Pochettino’s most influential players, and keeping him fit for the remainder of the season will be of paramount importance to their hopes of success.
The Lilywhites are still in with a chance of winning the league, although they will be reliant on Chelsea slipping up on more than one occasion during the course of the run-in.
And with the possibility of an FA Cup semi final on the horizon, these are exciting times to be a Tottenham fan.
