The Tottenham Hotspur defender has been heavily linked with an exit from the club this summer.

Tottenham ace Toby Alderweireld spoke to reporters last night, and dropped a big hint that he plans to stay in north London, suggesting that he sees himself in a Spurs shirt on the first day of the season.
The Belgium international is out of contract in the summer of 2020, and he currently has a £25 million release clause inserted into his deal – one that expires on July 26th, however.
Alderweireld is a vital player for Tottenham, and keeping hold of him for the upcoming campaign will be crucial for Mauricio Pochettino.
The north London outfit will of course not want to lose him for nothing next summer, but if he does end up staying past his release clause deadline, maybe they can tempt him into signing a new deal.
The 30-year-old spoke to reporters last night, and responded when asked whether he sees himself in a Tottenham shirt next season, as quoted by the Daily Mail:

“Yes. That’s my focus. In football everything can go quick but all I’m doing is focusing on Spurs and being fit for the start of the season. I think the manager knows I am committed to the club and the team but you never know in football.”
Obviously a lot can change in the next four days.
If any club meets his £25 million release clause, Tottenham will be forced into selling him.
As things stand, however, and judging by his comments, he remains very much a Spurs player.
