Tottenham ace Toby Alderweireld sat down for an exclusive interview with the club’s official Twitter account, and offered high words of praise for his teammate Jan Vertonghen, highlighting the connection that his shares with his countryman.

The 29-year-old is widely considered to be one of the best central defenders in world football, and the partnership that he has forged with the 31-year-old over the past three-and-a-half years has been a key contributing factor behind Spurs’ recent success.

Alderweireld has been linked with a move away from Tottenham, and he is available for just £25 million this summer, but the club’s fans will surely be desperate for the Belgium international to stay in north London.

As things stand, however, he is very much a Spurs player, and both he and Vertonghen will have a crucial role to play during the remainder of the campaign.

The former Atletico Madrid ace sat down for an exclusive interview with the club’s official Twitter account, and responded when asked whether he enjoys playing alongside his fellow Belgian:

“For me it helps a lot to play with Jan of course, because I know him from my time with Ajax and Belgium. He’s a good friend and everybody knows that we have a good connection, and it helps me a lot for him to be at my left at Spurs.”

Next up for Tottenham is back-to-back away games in the Premier League against Burnley and Chelsea respectively, before they play host to Arsenal, and they really do need to take maximum points from those outings, if they are to remain in the title race.

If they are to do just that, however, the Belgian duo will have to be on their very best form.
