Tottenham Hotspur will host Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Toby Alderweireld has praised the Tottenham fans for sending a ‘good message’ to the players after their 1-1 draw with Watford on Saturday, as he offered differing views than his manager Mauricio Pochettino.
After that match against Watford, Pochettino told Football London that the atmosphere wasn’t ideal, as Spurs dropped more points and produced another lacklustre display.
It was another game where Tottenham fell behind, as Dele Alli was the one who rescued them in the second half, but they weren’t able to snatch a much-needed winning goal.
Whilst Pochettino felt that the atmosphere wasn’t ideal, his senior defender, Alderweireld was more praising of them, and thanked them for sending a ‘good message’ to the players with the reception they gave the players at the end.
“We need to beat them [Red Star Belgarde], especially at home with the fans right behind us,” Alderweireld told Spurs’ official Twitter account. “I think European nights are always special.
“Let’s get three points together. The squad. The club. The fans. All together. We are lucky to have them [the fans]. And we need them on Tuesday. Like I said, together we can get out of this.
“In the end, even though it was a draw, a lot of fans stayed and applauded us. It’s a good message from them. I think it was a good message from us as well that up until the last minute we fought for it.”
It is another home fixture coming up for Spurs and this time they will lock horns against Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League.
Spurs supporters are well aware of what happened the last time they took part in a European game, as they will be looking for some reaction.
In a strange way, if Pochettino’s players can produce the same performance they put out in that first half against Bayern then they will put Red Star away, but it’s the second half showing that they want to avoid.
