Belgium’s performances at the European Championships this summer have certainly improved after their opening game defeat against Italy.
They beat the Republic of Ireland, Sweden and Hungary in their next three games – scoring eight goals and conceding none in the process.

The defence has certainly looked more solid since the opening game, a defence that includes two Tottenham Hotspur players.
Toby Alderweireld has been playing at centre-back with Jan Vertonghen at left-back for the Red Devils in France.
Speaking to Het Nieuwsblad today, Alderweireld has been singing the praises of his Spurs team-mate after his impressive performances at full-back:

“Jan feels good on the left with the Red Devils, I’m really impressed with him at this tournament.
“He is strong defensively and contributes offensively too.”
But he also spoke of Vertonghen’s ability to jump into a central position, with Barcelona’s Thomas Vermaelen suspended:
“Jan can play centrally or (Jason) Denayer can get to it: that is to me the most logical options.

But he is ready to sacrifice themselves for the team Wilmots calls. Jan or Jason now replaces Vermaelen, both are guys with experience.”
The Belgian pair formed a strong partnership for Spurs last season, but Vertonghen struggled to find his best form after returning from a knee injury and replacing Kevin Wimmer in April.
So seeing him getting back to his best form, regardless of it being at left-back, will be a big boost to Tottenham fans ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign.
