Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld has told Sky Sports that he is still waiting for a contract offer from the club, so rumours that he has rejected a new deal are not true.
Alderweireld, 28, joined Spurs in a bargain £11.4million deal from Atletico Madrid in 2015 (The Guardian), having starred during a loan spell with Southampton in the 2014/15 season.

His move to White Hart Lane saw him reunite with former Ajax and current Belgium international team-mate Jan Vertonghen, and the pair have struck up arguably the finest centre back partnership in the Premier League.
In fact, many believe Alderweireld to be the best centre back in the Premier League, having helped Spurs boast impressive defensive statistics in both of his seasons under Mauricio Pochettino.
Alderweireld’s performances have though triggered some speculation that he could leave the club, with Gianluca Di Marzio recently reporting that Alderweireld has told Spurs he won’t be extending his contract amid interest from Inter Milan.

The Daily Mail even reported last month that Alderweireld wants a new deal worth £110,000-a-week, putting him in a similar pay bracket to highest earners Harry Kane and club captain Hugo Lloris.
Now, Alderweireld has tackled the situation himself, telling Sky Sports that there has been no offer on the table for him to reject, so any rumours that he has snubbed a new deal or has told Spurs he won’t sign are completely unfounded.

Alderweireld noted that he is still waiting for Tottenham to make him an offer, but he believes he will be playing for Spurs next season – and fans will be hoping to see him commit his long-term future to the club.
“There is no talk now, so it’s all rumours, because if there’s no talk there’s no rejection as well. We will see in future how it will go,” said Alderweireld. “I’m still waiting for a contract proposal. But in my mind I’m playing for Spurs next season,” he added.
