Tottenham Hotspur star says he will not get carried away.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld knows what it takes to beat Real Madrid, having seen his old club Atletico pip them to the La Liga title.

Alderweireld will be key as Spurs take on Real at the Bernabeu this week, but has promised not to get carried away if they can pull off a victory.

Speaking to the London Evening Standard, Alderweireld said: “If we win, we won’t think we’re the best in the world, we don’t have to be too dramatic about it.”

That may be easy to say, but a win would likely spark huge celebrations in the dressing room and the stands, while the media certainly will get carried away.

Alderweireld is right though, this is not a final, merely just a group game, and Spurs and Real both sit pretty with a maximum six points so far.

A draw would be an ideal result for both teams, while a win would almost secure qualification to the knockout stages.

Alderweireld will have to be at his best to shut down Cristiano Ronaldo, but Spurs have attacking threats of their own which will give Real a big headache, and the Spanish side have had a difficult start to the La Liga season.
