The Tottenham Hotspur defender feared he may never get the feeling back in his leg.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld has been commenting on the extent of his recent knee injury suffered earlier this season.

The Belgian struggled to get back to full fitness after picking up the injury in October against West Brom.

His injury became something of a mystery at Spurs, but it soon emerged he had suffered nerve damage in his knee.

Speaking to Humo in Belgium this week he mentioned how he became concerned about his career, due to the severity of the issue.

He stated:

“In the knee, you’ve got a nerve that extends all the way down to your feet.

“It got trapped through contact with Jan. It felt like I was paralysed, I could not even move my toes.

“Specialists told me to relax and I quickly got feeling back in my toes. I thought, ‘it’s okay’ but I still could not walk after three days. That’s when I began to worry.

“If after two weeks you still have no feeling in your leg, you start you wonder ‘will it ever return’.”

Tottenham certainly missed the Belgian during his absence. His injury problem certainly would have had Spurs fans concerned for their title chances.

But since his return to action Spurs have been in good form and have only lost once when he has featured for the club since his knee problem.

The Spurs defender has been considered among, if not, the best central defenders in the Premier League and Tottenham fans will be pleased that he appears to have put his injury problems behind him and is fully operational once again.

If he can remain fit, then Tottenham’s title hopes will remain in tact.
