The Tottenham Hotspur defender saw England crash out of the tournament this week.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld has been speaking to Belgian website Nieuwsblad about England’s elimination from the European Championships at the hands of Iceland on Monday evening.
Roy Hodgson’s side had the perfect start when Wayne Rooney converted from the penalty spot after just four minutes, but that lead was quickly wiped out and by half time England were 2-1 down.

A lacklustre performance in the second period condemned the Three Lions to one of the most embarrassing defeats in their history and with Hodgson resigning soon after it is time for a new man to repair the damage.
Speaking after the shock result, Alderweireld said, “Maybe the Premier League should still think about more rest. In winter, when other leagues have a rest it is even more intense in England.
“Often a tournament like the European Championships is decided on how fresh you are physically.”

The debate over a winter break has long been discussed in England but it seems highly unlikely anything will change in the short term.
As for Tottenham, they have five downhearted England players who they must re-focus in time for the new campaign, with Spurs’ Belgian contingent potentially still having some way to go in the competition.
