Antonio Conte has responded to a question during Friday’s press conference – as per Football London – about the reportedly imminent signing of Djed Spence, stating Tottenham will always look to improve when possible.
Spence, 21, has emerged as a priority for Tottenham this summer. The England Under-21 international sparkled for Nottingham Forest on loan from Middlesbrough last season – helping Steve Cooper’s side gain promotion.
But Spence has not signed permanently with Forest – and Boro are ready to cash in. The Athletic report that Spence ‘is on the cusp’ of signing for Tottenham. A medical is expected before the end of the week.

Conte was asked about signing Spence this summer. He responded by remaining respectful, which is fully expected of Conte – but he says that Tottenham will continue to look to improve players.
“Yeah, about Spence we don’t want to comment about speculation because it is disrespectful for all the other players, for the club and the other team. Sure we are always looking to improve the squad if there is the possibility.”

It is a signing that realistically, needs to happen. Tottenham do have options on the right of their defence, but Emerson Royal has struggled since joining. Matt Doherty is up and down at Spurs.
Spence gives Spurs a proper talent – a future at right-back. Maybe not one to start straight away but after a few months, or even a season or two, the defender has the potential to be a stunning signing for Tottenham.
