Michael Brown says he was ‘surprised’ Daniel Farke’s Leeds United managed to sign Joel Piroe from Swansea City this summer.

Following relegation to the Championship, Leeds United have been keen to boost their forward areas, even though it’s their defence that has been the biggest issue.

And they didn’t waste any time in pushing for Joel Piroe’s signature, with Brown stating that the Dutchman is a ‘really good signing’, as he told Sky Sports Football (29/08/23 at 7:10 pm).

After scoring 46 goals in 96 games for Swansea, the 24-year-old moves to Elland Road with a very strong goalscoring record, with one of his added strengths being his ability from long-range (WhoScored).

Therefore, it wasn’t a surprise that he netted on his Championship debut for Leeds when they secured a chaotic 4-3 win at early flyers and newly-promoted, Ipswich Town.

This certainly boosts Leeds’ chances of earning promotion back to the Premier League, with Brown praising the signing, even if it took him by surprise.

“Piroe is a really good signing,” said Brown. “He has fitted in straight away. I was surprised that they were able to get that deal done.”

Farke needs the transfer window to slam shut

Leeds are still probably going to be busy themselves in bringing in players before Friday’s cut-off point.

But Farke probably can’t wait for the window to slam shut because it has been disruptive.

Players leaving out on loan, left, right and centre, followed up by others refusing to play.

It hasn’t been an ideal start, off the field, for Leeds, but the quicker the window closes, the easier it will get for Farke to focus on the task at hand.
