Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips has stated that West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice is ‘the life of the group’, as he told Football Focus.
The Leeds and West Ham duo have been key members for England in recent times and they proved their worth at Euro 2020.
On Saturday afternoon, Leeds suffered a 2-1 defeat against David Moyes’ men, with Michail Antonio netting the late winner.
It was Rice who supplied him with the assist, as Leeds are winless six games into the new Premier League season.
But this is what Phillips had to say about his national teammate and what he really thinks of him.
“He’s really funny, to be honest,” said Phillips. “He is just the life of the group. He bonds with everybody.
“He is a very loving and caring guy. He just makes it a lot easier for everyone to get along with each other.”
Just over 12 months ago, both Phillips and Rice still had their critics, especially when playing for England.
But they put an end to that during Euro 2020, with performances players such as Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard weren’t even able to produce when they donned the Three Lions shirt.
When it comes to the domestic scene, there’s no doubt that the Leeds and West Ham duo have a long way to match the Chelsea and Liverpool legends.
But only two of those players guided their country to the final of a major tournament.
