Jurgen Klopp admitted Liverpool got ‘lucky’ when Callum Wilson had a goal controversially ruled out by VAR during Saturday’s 1-1 Premier League draw with Newcastle United, while speaking to the club’s official website.
At this point, we are all sick of seeing ‘LiVARpool’ trend on Twitter whenever a decision goes Klopp’s way.
But, taking off the tinfoil hat and putting the conspiracy theories aside for a second, it is impossible to shake the feeling that Liverpool were more than a little fortunate at Anfield this weekend.
The law really is an ass at times and Newcastle’s £20 million striker found that out the hard way when his stoppage-time equaliser was ruled out in contentious fashion.
His crime? The ball rebounding up and brushing his arm on its way into the net.
“Newcastle deserve a point because they scored a goal that was disallowed and, as far as I remember, it was the first time we were lucky with VAR, to be honest,” Klopp said, giving his take on the latest in a long line of questionable calls from Stockley Park.

It mattered little in the end of course.
Joe Willock fired home a trademark goal in the 95th minute – moments after Wilson was left disappointed – to all-but secure Newcastle’s Premier League status.
While some will argue that Newcastle should have won 2-1 then, assuming Wilson’s goal should have stood, it is worth pointing out that, if Wilson’s effort had been allowed, then Newcastle probably wouldn’t have been flooding the box looking for a 95th-minute winner in the first place.
