John Terry has admitted that he’s surprised Harry Kane is even still a Tottenham Hotspur player, claiming that he should’ve probably left last summer.

Kane to Manchester City is shaping up to be the transfer saga of the summer, with Pep Guardiola willing to now pay the £150 million needed to get his man [The Guardian].

The 28-year-old only returned to Spurs training this week after controversially failing to show up to Hotspur Way originally following his post-Euro 2020 holiday.

That was considered an attempt to force a move away from North London but the player issued a statement via Instagram insisting that was not the case, arguing it was a matter of crossed wires.

When football was on hiatus in 2020 due to the pandemic, Kane panicked Lilywhites fans by revealing that he may not spend his entire career with the club and although speculation followed, him leaving is a much more likely scenario this summer.

And Chelsea icon Terry claims that the England international – who has netted over 200 goals for Tottenham but has yet to win a trophy – could and should have quit 12 months ago, but insisted that no Spurs supporter could blame him if he does finally go this time around.

He told Stadium Astro: “To be honest I think Harry’s been very loyal to Tottenham. I think he’s stayed a year too long in my opinion if I’m honest. Listen, we don’t know what conversation is going on between Harry and Daniel Levy either but if Tottenham were spending £150 million or £200 million in the transfer market,

“Harry’s got a decision to make. If the club are not really investing or competing with these top sides, I think the only option is to leave and I don’t think any Tottenham fan can blame him.”

According to The Times, as covered by HITC Sport, the player himself has accepted the strong possibiliy that he may have to stay at Tottenham beyond this summer.

It remains to be seen if he’ll play today as Nuno Espirito Santo’s side ironically kick off their Premier League against Manchester City in London.
