Diogo Jota told Sky Sports that he was ‘expecting a bit more possession’ from Arsenal during their 3-0 defeat against Liverpool on Saturday.

It was the in-form Jota, who can do no wrong, that came off the bench to score a brace against the struggling Gunners.

Even though Liverpool were on top before he was introduced, the £41 million (BBC Sport) superstar just took the game away from Arsenal and added that ruthless nature to their final third play.

After the match, Jota expressed his surprise at Arsenal not having more of the ball but did credit his team for the manner in which they pressed.

“To be honest, I was expecting a bit more possession from the Arsenal team,” said Jota. “They get us used to that.

“But we show that we pressed really well. And we didn’t allow them to have that possession.

“In the end, we controlled the game with the ball and with the goals.”

Its domestic action straight to some crucial European ties for both Liverpool and Arsenal this week.

A certain Real Madrid await Liverpool on Tuesday, whilst Mikel Arteta is preparing for a tricky test against Slavia Prague.

Both are hoping to lift each European trophy at the end of the season to make something of the troubles they have faced in 2020/21.
