Seko Fofana has been speaking to Foot Mercato, after Newcastle and Leeds both expressed an interest in signing the RC Lens maestro last month.
What’s the story?
Well, it was Foot Mercato who revealed that Newcastle wanted to sign the 26-year-old in January, whereas another report from Foot Mercato claimed Leeds also wanted Fofana.
Now, the Ivory Coast international has spoken to the French news outlet about his future.
Fofana – who is rated at £14m – said: “To be honest, nothing is impossible. Today, I can very well say yes (to staying at RC Lens) and tomorrow it will be no.”
By the sounds of it, he’s open to leaving RC Lens in future, and he certainly won’t be short of offers.
After leaving Manchester City in 2016, Fofana made a name for himself at Udinese, before joining Lens in 2020.
Since then, the Ivorian has become a star in France, with leading French outlet Get French Football News even naming him as Player of the Year for 2021, ahead of Kylian Mbappe.
So far this season, Fofana has scored nine goals in all competitions.
Newcastle and Leeds must act

He didn’t exactly give a come-and-get-me plea, although Fofana is clearly open to trying something new.
In our view, Newcastle and Leeds must act on his comments and make a move, before his valuation soars.
Despite his heroics in France, the rest of Europe do not seem to be aware of how good Fofana is, perhaps due to a lack of media coverage.

Eddie Howe and Marcelo Bielsa need to exploit that, as there’s an incredible midfielder right in the midst of his prime just waiting to be snapped up.
If the Premier League duo wait another season, they could be made to regret it by either paying more, or even missing out completely.
