Darragh MacAnthony has praised West Ham for being ‘brilliant’ during Peterborough United’s deadline day deal to sign Conor Coventry, as he told Sky Sports.

The Posh owner claimed that David Moyes was ‘great’ with him, as the Championship club signed Coventry on a season-long loan, as confirmed by West Ham’s official website.

The Hammers were one of the busier teams during deadline day, including the arrival of midfielder Alex Král.

MacAnthony shared that Peterborough wanting to sign Coventry had been ‘six weeks’ in the works, with the delay stemming from the London club wanting to bring in fresh faces before they let their academy star go.

“We signed the young lad from West Ham,” said MacAnthony. “That’s been in the works for six weeks.

“To be fair to West Ham, they were brilliant with us. David Moyes was great. They made it clear that he would go to us, but only when they signed players.

“Unfortunately, that took a little bit longer. Our season has started and he is on the bench in the Premier League as a sub and you are thinking, ‘please don’t come on’ because if he comes on scores a wonder goal and does something’

“The kid’s a wonderful talent. So, we are very happy to have him. He completes our centre-midfield quartet that we have.”

West Ham’s midfield is stacked, so with the new arrivals on deadline day, it was the right call for Coventry to move on.

But this is a chance for him to ply his trade in a league that has helped nurture some of England’s top talents.

The likes of Jamie Vardy, Jesse Lingard, Mason Mount, Jack Grealish, Harry Kane, Harry Maguire and Patrick Bamford, to name a few, have all done wonders in the lower leagues before making a name for themselves in the Premier League.
