Harry Kane has admitted that Aston Villa’s central defenders did a good job marking Carlos Vinicius last night, on Sky Sports.

Vinicius was picked to partner Kane up-front for Tottenham yesterday, and he helped Spurs to a 2-0 win over Dean Smith’s men.

The Brazilian set Spurs on their way to victory by scoring early.

However, Kane actually felt that Ezri Konsa and Tyrone Mings did a very good job marking him in general.

“Vini is a number nine and he kind of stretched as much as he could,” he said.

“He tried to occupy the two centre halves and I tried to get into those pockets.

“To be fair to Vin they closed him quite well. But when we did get into them we created a few chances.”

Konsa and Mings may have done a credible job, but Villa couldn’t shut out Tottenham’s attacking might in the end.

Vinicius profited from an error from Villa’s defence, before Kane scored from the spot – after Matty Cash had dived in.

Villa will feel that both goals were avoidable, but they will also be disappointed with their own lack of attacking threat.

Smith’s side had plenty of pressure early on, but couldn’t break down Tottenham’s defence.

Villa will hope that they pose more of an attacking threat after the international break, when Jack Grealish comes back.
