Portuguese manager Vitor Pereira is reportedly in England today to discuss with Everton over the vacant managerial role at the club.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the former FC Porto and Fenerbahce coach will meet with the Toffees board to discuss details over becoming the new manager of the club. As per the Italian reporter, Pereira ‘will be in England’ today.
Everton are now approaching the second week of their manager search as the hunt for Rafa Benitez’s successor continues. Duncan Ferguson for now is in interim charge of the Merseyside club, with the Scotsman overseeing a 1-0 loss to Aston Villa on Saturday.
Despite links to former manager Roberto Martinez and Derby County boss Wayne Rooney, it appears that Pereira is the favourite to land the position with Everton, with the 53-year-old’s last position being held in Turkey with Fener last year.
A title-winner with the likes of Porto and Olympiacos as well as success in Saudi Arabia and China, Everton will be Pereira’s first job in England as well as one of his biggest in his 18-year managerial career.
This isn’t the first time Everton have interviewed Pereira for the position, either. As per the Liverpool Echo, the former 1860 Munich manager was in contention for the job in May 2013 before eventually agreeing to join Al Ahil in the Middle East.
Everton are playing it too safe if they appoint Pereira

A manager with an overall win percentage of 55%, Pereira is an interesting choice to take over at Everton given his lack of experience managing in a top-five European league. And for the Toffees, the Portuguese coach could be too safe an option to replace Benitez.
Indeed, Everton are a club suffering from an identity crisis, and whilst there’s no hard in appointing a manager like Pereira, it is certainly a decision that will not get supporters excited for the future or bring renewed hope.
