Serie A champions Inter Milan will hand Milan Skriniar a £1 million-a-year pay rise to ward off interest from Antonio Conte’s Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur, speaking to Calciomercato.
We are just four days into Conte’s reign in north London and it hasn’t taken long for reports to emerge suggesting a handful of Inter stars could be following in his footsteps.
Lautaro Martinez, Stefan de Vrij, Marcelo Brozovic and Nicolo Barella have all been linked with a move to the English capital this week.
Perhaps the most intriguing link, however, surrounds that of Skriniar – a player Tottenham admired long before the days of Conte and even managing director Fabio Paratici.
The 26-year-old Slovakia international was Jose Mourinho’s top defensive target during his time in the Spurs hot seat.
Tottenham even submitted a bid in the region of £30 million 14 months ago, albeit one that fell substantially short of Inter’s £55 million asking price.
The Scudetto holders would have been expecting Tottenham to renew their interest, then, following Conte’s return to the Premier League. And it seems Inter are taking steps to ensure Skriniar stays at the San Siro.

Can Conte’s Tottenham finally tempt Inter star Skriniar?
Skriniar, who joined the Nerazzurri from Sampdoria four years ago, is due to become a free agent in summer 2023. And, according to Calciomercato, Inter chief executive Beppe Marotta and sporting director Piero Ausilio are working their fingers to the bone as negotiations over a long-awaited contract extension go into overdrive.
Skriniar is expected to be offered a £1 million wage rise to ward off interest from Tottenham. It’s one that would see the defender’s weekly pay packet increase from £50,000 net to about £66,000.
Midfield duo Barella and Brozovic are also set to sign new deals, according to Ausilio. It seems Conte and Paratici still have much to do if they want to boost their Tottenham squad.
