Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to discuss Mesut Özil’s absence from Wednesday’s Carabao Cup win over Leicester.

The German was missing from the squad for the trip to the King Power Stadium, where usual non-starters such as Mohamed Elneny and Reiss Nelson started.

It seemed like the perfect game for Özil to make his first appearance of the campaign, but the ex-Real Madrid midfielder wasn’t even on the bench.

Significantly, he has been absent from all four of Arsenal’s matchday squads this season, including the Community Shield win over Liverpool.

An own-goal from Christian Fuchs and a strike from Eddie Nketiah helped the Gunners to victory, but Mikel Arteta was still quizzed on the 31-year-old’s absence after the win.

Interestingly, Sky Sports quote the Spaniard as saying: ‘I try to select the players that are, in my opinion, in better condition.’

Arsenal’s No.10 hasn’t played since March 7th, where he notched an assist in a 1-0 win over West Ham.

The win over Leicester would’ve been the perfect game to bleed Özil back into action, given that Brendan Rodgers selected a much weaker side than usual.

However, the Arsene Wenger signing, who cost £42.4 million, was nowhere to be seen.

Let’s see what the Arsenal fans on Twitter think of his absence…
