Isaac Assenso never quite made the grade at Elland Road, but is in a play-off hunt of his own in West Yorkshire.

In the summer of 2015 Leeds United released talented youngster Isaac Assenso, which certainly came as a surprise to some.

At the start of that campaign, then academy chief Neil Redfearn was high in his praise for the combative midfielder, who can also play at centre-back.

He told the club’s official website, after Assenso had starred in a youth game against Ipswich Town:

“Isaac Assenso, who was a second half substitute, was our best player and his dominance in midfield went a long way to our good second half display.”

However Assenso failed to develop and was released that summer.

So where is he now?

After a successful trial spell, Assenso signed on with Scunthorpe United on a free transfer but was released by the Iron after just six months.

He went on to join Hartlepool United but left the club in February.

Now he is playing his football in the Northern Premier League Division One North with Ossett Town FC.

The club are currently pushing for promotion to the Northern League Premier Division, which would be the seventh tier of football on the pyramid.

It may not be Elland Road but Assenso is still a young player with plenty of talent. If he can help Ossett to promotion then he might still have a future in the professional ranks.

Leeds fans will undoubtedly wish him the best of luck.
