According to The Sun, Aston Villa are looking into an audacious move for Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba.
Villa clearly have cash to splash this summer. They’ve been linked with a £60m move for Kalvin Phillips, and while Pogba would potentially be a free transfer, he would command massive wages.
Interestingly, Pogba is a player that Gerrard has gone on the record to speak about in the past back when he did punditry for BT Sport, and he spotted one small flaw in his game.
What’s been said?
Gerrard believes Pogba goes forward too much.
“I think if there’s one small, tiny criticism of this player it would be that he goes forward maybe too much,” Gerrard said.
“If he’s playing in central midfield with one other player i.e. a Matic, he might leave him a bit exposed.
“I had similar criticism of myself when I played in that position with Didi Hamann or Xabi Alonso – I was eager to get into the box all the time and with experience and age and a bit more maturity, you maybe pick and choose your times where you make your runs forward.”

Perfect role model
It seems as though Gerrard knows Pogba’s flaws, and that’s always a good thing to know if you’re going to manage a player.
To be honest, there may not be many better role models than Gerrard for Pogba. In his day, the Liverpool legend was one of the most tactically versatile and adept players around.
Gerrard said himself that he suffered from the same problems as Pogba, but he worked to address it and went on to become arguably the Premier League’s greatest ever midfielder.
If Gerrard can do the same with Pogba, the Frenchman could once again be an absolute star if he joins Aston Villa.
