What next for Celtic prospect Jack Aitchison?

Celtic moved this week to seal a deal for Timothy Weah on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.

Weah, 18, is an exciting young striker with an eye for goal.

But hold on, don’t Celtic have one of those already?

Jack Aitchison will turn 19 in March and the move for Weah highlights Brendan Rodgers’ lack of faith in him.

Aitchison has been overlooked during Rodgers’ spell at Celtic and is not deemed ready for first team action.

Jack Aitchison of Celtic celebrates scoring during the UEFA Youth Champions League match between Celtic and Valencia at Celtic Park on February 10, 2016 in Glasgow, Scotland.

This is despite Aitchison scoring for Celtic at just 16 back in 2016, becoming the club’s youngest ever goalscorer.

There were sky-high hopes for Aitchison back then, but he has not been able to make the transition to first team football.

Weah’s arrival shows Aitchison’s lack of progress up.

It also puts a further block between him and first team football.

Aitchison needs to leave on loan in order to make a name for himself, and prove Celtic wrong.
