Celtic new boy Timothy Weah has told The Scottish Sun that he spoke to Dani Alves before making his move to Parkhead.

The Bhoys came into the January transfer window needing attacking reinforcements, and Brendan Rodgers has brought in three forwards in a matter of days.

Saturday saw Oliver Burke come in on loan from West Bromwich Albion, Weah joined from Paris Saint-Germain on Monday and Dunajska Streda attacker Vakoun Issouf Bayo signed on Tuesday.

That’s a winger and two strikers signed, and they should provide Rodgers with the attacking impetus he has been looking for in recent weeks, with Leigh Griffiths currently unavailable.

An interesting move is that of Weah, as many felt that Celtic needed an experienced striker to lead the line, but instead they have signed an 18-year-old starting out his senior career.

The American youngster is already a full international, but needs playing time to really develop, and chances of first-team action at PSG are limited at best.

Weah has now joined Celtic on loan until the end of the season, reuniting with ex-PSG teammate Odsonne Edouard, but he has revealed that had advice from some PSG players.

Weah noted that he didn’t speak to Neymar about the deal, but did speak to Thomas Meunier and Dani Alves, the latter of whom actually scored against Celtic in the Champions League last season.

The 35-year-old is understood to have backed the move, telling Weah that Celtic was the best club for him in terms of getting experience and playing regularly, with Weah clearly excited about the deal.

“I didn’t go to him and speak to him one-on-one about coming to Celtic but I kinda spoke to other team-mates like Thomas Meunier and Dani Alves,” said Weah. “They said it’s good to go out and get experience and they felt Celtic was the best club because you’re getting that. It’s all in the package — great team, great supporters, great stadium, great coaching staff, so it’s a great place to come and learn,” he added.
