The defender is the only recognised right-back in Manchester United’s squad for their next match.

Manchester United’s 19-man squad for their Europa League clash with Zorya Luhansk on Thursday evening has given some interesting glimpses as to a possible starting line-up.

With Matteo Darmian and Antonio Valencia both excluded from the travelling party, the likelihood is that Timothy Fosu-Mensah will get another chance to impress.

The 18-year-old broke through at Old Trafford under former manager Louis van Gaal, but he has slipped down the pecking order under Jose Mourinho, featuring only four times for the Portuguese to date.

Given that he started the reverse fixture against Zorya, and with no obvious alternatives, Fosu-Mensah will surely kick off the game.

The young Dutchman is highly regarded at Old Trafford and on previous evidence he looks set to become a United star in the years to come.

For now he will seize any chance that comes his way, with the form of Valencia and the presence of Darmian meaning Fosu-Mensah is very much third-choice right-back for now.

That could change after January, but whatever happens then, the future looks very bright for the United teenager who is equally adept in defence or in the centre of the park.
