Celtic reportedly had a substantial bid knocked back in January.

It’s getting harder and harder for Celtic to sign Timothy Castagne.

According to Di Marzio, Celtic had an £8.8 million offer rejected by Atalanta back in January.

The Belgian right-back has had a brilliant season in Italy and it was no surprise to see AC Milan reportedly then taking a look at him.

But now so is another Italian giant.

Il Mattino have claimed that now Napoli are interested in signing the 23-year-old and, from a Celtic perspective, surely their chance is gone.

If Milan want you then that’s bad enough if you’re the Hoops, but when Napoli, who finished second in Serie A, are in the mix then moving to Parkhead looks more and more like a pipe dream unfortunately.

It’s worth noting that the reported offer by Celtic was tabled when Brendan Rodgers and Head of Recruitment Lee Congerton were in Glasgow, both of whom are now at Leicester.

The Bhoys might not have been interested in renewing interest anyway, but if they are then it’s growing increasingly unlikely that the £10 million-rated defender [The Times] will wind up in Scotland.
