New Spurs striker Timo Werner claims that playing at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was special for him even many years ago.
Tottenham have struck their first signing of the January transfer window by bringing RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner back to the Premier League.
Werner has signed on loan for the rest of the season, returning to English football after just 18 months away.
The 27-year-old joined Chelsea back in 2020 having been an absolute goal machine for RB Leipzig.
The move really didn’t work out though and headed back to RB Leipzig in 2022, only to now return to the Premier League with Tottenham.
Timo Werner comments on Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Not everybody will be on board with Werner’s move given his disappointing spell at Chelsea and lack of starts for RB Leipzig this season.
Ange Postecoglou may believe that he can get Werner back on track though with his speed and movement potentially ideal for this Tottenham side.
Werner has now commented on his move and drew particular attention to his new surroundings in North London.
Tottenham have one of the world’s greatest stadiums and that will be attractive to many targets on the Spurs radar.
Werner has now told Tottenham’s official website that he loved Tottenham’s stadium ‘straight away’ having played there and scored the winner with RB Leipzig in February 2020.

Werner noted that he found Tottenham’s stadium ‘really something special’ when playing there with RB Leipzig or London rivals Chelsea.
The new Spurs man is now buzzing to call Tottenham home and can’t wait to play in front of his new fans between now and the summer.
“They were always very tight matches against Tottenham, especially in the Champions League when I played my first game here – I think it was my first game in England when (RB Leipzig) played in the new stadium,” said Werner.
“Straight away I loved it, it was really something special to play there, to score there and now that this stadium is my home is something really special and I hope to play there as I did when I was at other teams. It should be even more special to score for Spurs as the home team, and to have the whole crowd behind you when you score is even better. I’m really looking forward to the games,” he added.
Spurs are on the road at Manchester United this weekend, so Werner will have to wait for that home debut.
Werner seemingly can’t wait though and having enjoyed his trips to Tottenham in the past, he will be looking to make North London his permanent home moving forward.
