Timo Werner has praised the influence of Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecolgou after joining on loan from RB Leipzig.

Tottenham went into the January window wanting to sign a new attacker – and they have got one.

Spurs have completed the signing of RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner, taking him on loan for the rest of the season.

HITC Football understands that Tottenham can turn the move permanent for around £15.5million at the end of the campaign.

Werner could make his Tottenham debut against Manchester United this weekend but may need a crash course in ‘Angeball’ in the next few days.

New Tottenham signing Timo Werner talks up Ange Postecoglou influence

Ange Postecoglou has Tottenham playing an exciting brand of football right now, something fairly unique in the Premier League and a far cry from the Spurs approach in recent years.

Postecoglou loves players who provide pace in the final third, hence the summer deal to sign Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest.

Now it’s Werner arriving with Tottenham taking a punt on a striker who was one of Europe’s hottest attackers just four years ago.

The 27-year-old didn’t quite live up to expectations at Chelsea and was sold back to RB Leipzig after two years in London.

Werner slipped down the pecking order this season and is now having another crack at Premier League football.

Postecoglou must have seen something in Werner and the German has now talked up the influence of the Tottenham boss.

Speaking to Tottenham’s official website, Werner indicated that talking to Postecoglou attracted him to Tottenham.

Postecoglou discussed his tactics and left Werner feeling that Tottenham is the perfect destination for him given the attack-minded approach.

“A lot of things attracted me here – first of all, the talk with the manager,” said Werner. “I thought it was a really good talk, he gave me straight away the feeling that I need to join a club, what I want to feel when you talk to a manager and also the tactics and the style, how he wants to play, how he lets the team play. For me I thought straight away that it fits perfectly,” he added.

We would expect Werner to play as a striker in Postecoglou’s system, but he does offer similar versatility to Son Heung-min and Richarlison.

That means Werner could operate down the left flank if needed, with that flexibility ideal whilst Son is at the Asian Cup.

Tottenham fans already think that Postecoglou has the magic touch, and he may well prove it if he can get Werner firing again.
